Cath Kidston magazine - May 2010 edition… 'Looking for the perfect escape this summer?
We asked holiday guru Alastair Sawday to pick out his favourite B&Bs across the country – whoever’s in your entourage…
Flamborough Rigg Cottage Fantastic for Furry friends….
A must-visit for all dog owners who can’t bear to leave their furry friend at home. Dogs are most welcome at this1820s farmhouse; in fact, owners Philip and Caroline bought the house partly because it had such wonderful dog-walking opportunities. They have got it just right on the inside as well, with brilliant bathrooms, crisp linen and delicious meals from home-grown produce.......'
One of the reasons we bought Flamborough Rigg Cottage was our dogs (Labs Phoebe and Meg) as it is unquestionably the best dog walking country we have ever seen, although humans seem to enjoy it too!
Your dogs are more than welcome to join you at no extra charge although similar to the policy you see in many shops – ‘If it’s chewed you may consider it bought!!’
The garden is fully enclosed and ideal for your dog to roam.
For practical reasons we don’t let dogs come into the dining room/lounge. Our guests either put their dog back in their car or in the summerhouse whilst they enjoy breakfast or a supper platter.
The summerhouse forms part of the courtyard and is stone built which means it stays cool on warmer days; equally there is a heater to keep it cosy on colder days. There is a basket and water bowl already in there but you are welcome to take a familiar blanket or bedding in so your dog will settle happily.
Alternatively if you prefer not to leave your dog unattended whilst you enjoy your meal we send a comprehensive list of our local dog friendly pubs when we confirm your reservation. There is a good choice of places nearby where dogs are welcome to sit by or under your table whilst you tuck in. At some pubs you’ll even find the staff may have a few treats on hand for any visiting four legged friends!
We ask that dogs are not left alone in your bedroom. This avoids any stress from them being left in a strange place - perhaps worrying if you’ll be coming back for them!
Please be aware that our hens and guinea fowl sometimes wander in the garden and courtyard too.
If you have any queries at all about bringing your dog to stay at Flamborough Rigg Cottage please don’t hesitate to call us on 01751 475263.
Here are just a few of the comments our guests have made on Trip Advisor regarding our ‘dog friendliness’…
…This is the first time we have been away with our very boisterous, very large, 2 year old chocolate Labrador - we were therefore quite anxious that he should be made welcome - we need not have worried. Caroline and Phil made it clear from the start that our dog was welcome and he had free use of their lovely garden. They told us which pubs/restaurants would welcome him (lots of the local ones) and generally treated him as an extra guest…
...So good that we have just booked our 3rd visit (in just 6 months)
Beautifully decorated and equipped, fabulous location and the owners could not be more helpful.
Genuinely dog friendly.
Lovely walks straight from doorstep, and although totally rural and peaceful not difficult to get to local town.
….We chose it in part because we needed to take our dog with us - and it is very dog friendly but without being 'doggy' as there are house rules to make sure your hound doesn't spoil someone else's stay….
…The room (Lockwood) was beautifully decorated and was ideal for us as we had brought along our dog and the room had direct access to secure gardens.
Beautiful accommodation. Wonderful hosts. Excellent in all regards. We did not have a dog and so for those non dog people do not be put off by any means as there was not a pet hair or muddy paw print in sight. Standards are the up most high at this B&B and we loved our stay. You will not be disappointed.
…Our puppy was made to feel very welcome too - the garden was enclosed so he was free to run around while we enjoyed the fizz on arrival. Take your walking shoes, you won't be disappointed!
