We moved to Flamborough Rigg Cottage in July 2007 after a number of years in a beautiful part of Derbyshire and for us both returning to Yorkshire was coming home. As soon as we saw Flamborough Rigg we knew it was a place our Labradors Phoebe and Meg would be happy – wonderful walks and great dog friendly pubs. The dogs instincts turned out to be right!
We have at least 6 walks from the front door ranging from 1 to 6 miles through every type of country from thick forest to the heather clad moors. It’s rare when one of the dogs isn’t startled by a deer which makes it even more interesting. We have also found quite a few pubs where the dogs are welcome to sit under our table while we have a meal. (Being Labradors they never do!!)
Between us we have quite a few years experience managing some lovely hotels, interesting restaurants and even places as diverse as the Royal College of Surgeons and the Headquarters of the Scout Association. Our idea of fun is finding new places to eat both locally and around the world and we hope we can bring a little of what we have picked up to the accommodation and meals we offer at Flamborough Rigg Cottage.
This brings us to another reason we fell for the cottage. We have room to grow our own vegetables, a small orchard provides us with a variety of fruit and our newly arrived ex battery hens have just started laying for England! There is even a grape vine producing grapes in abundance – perhaps Chateau Flamborough Rigg one day? To make things even better, the local gamekeeper lives down the lane and we have arrived home on occasion to find a brace of pheasants or partridge hanging over the gate. We are certainly trying to keep the food miles down!
